Yup, totally agree. I do think we pander to them far to much sometimes.

If I had spoken, even once, to my Grandmother they way my Aimee speaks to me, I wouldn't have sat down for a week or more.

Now it's a case of "she's a teenager and having a bad puberty, she'll grow out of it" Yea, right. Sometimes it's all I can do to keep
my arse on the seat and not chase her around the house and beat her stupid. She is bloody lucky sometimes I am slow...

I so agree with you Zan...it didn't do us any harm and as you say we are the better for it. Unfortunately though, in these times kids get away with all
kinds of stuff and we hear how we have to be careful how we talk to them, what we say and do can harm them. Seems to me like we over protect kids these days
and find all kinds of excuse for their behaviour.

Yup, that was much of the problem years ago, if an adult thought you had done something you shouldn't have done, then you had done it. No explainations
were asked for and if one opened ones mouth to deny all charges one was in worse shite, lol.

Still, it didn't do most of us any harm and I know I am a better person for the way Mum brought us up.

trying to explain ourselves :)

That was great reading how your mom cleaned your chimney! I usually have ours cleaned once a year, but we haven't used ours for
a couple of years. I think the year that a squirrel jumped out when we lit a fire was when we decided to start having it cleaned. The squirrel came out of the
fireplace, then curled up under the coffee table and went back to sleep. LOL

One day sparks started coming down the chimney. We all knew then it was time to sweep it. Sparks meant the next thing would be the chimney would be on fire.
